Roles of Tutankhamun
Tutankhamun's sudden death and early reign made it hard for him to have the same amount of roles that a previous Pharaoh had. Although he was young, the roles he was given weren't easy. A few of Tutankhamuns roles were, military leader, a religious role, a leader in the building program and a pharaoh of a high status.
Some sources say that Tutankhamun was a leader in a military campaign and others say that he wasnt. It is one if the most common questioned roles of Tutankhamun during his reign in the eighteenth dynasty. A few sources say that it was very doubtful that he took any part in leading an army but there are some that say that a number of foreign campaigns occured during the reign of Tutankhamun. Whether he lead these campaign's is a question and most sources will tell you that it was unlikely that he did due to the young age of Tutankhamun at the time. Although during the eighteenth dynasty when Tutankhamun reigned the military did play and important role in Egyptian affairs. Evidence to prove that Tutankhamun actually might have lead the army is found in his tomb. When Tutankhamuns tomb was discovered in 1922, daggers and other sharp like items were found in the burial chamber within his tomb.
Another role which is quite evident to have occured during the reign of Tutankhamun was his role in his building programs.Tutankhamun’s role in building programs was much more extensive than people realise. Through out his reign tutankhamun had the role of constructing buildings for himself or in dedication to someone else. Some of the sites that he built included the temples built at Memphis and Nubia, his own tomb, which was one of the most significant and temples and shrines around Egypt. The construction of his tomb in the Valley of the Kings was one of the most significant works of Tutankhamun. The purpose of having it located in the Valley of the Kings was so that tomb robbers werent able to find it easily if i was located in a pyramid. Inside the tomb there were many features including serveral chmabers, with one of the most important being the burial chamber, where most of his precious artefacts were located. He also played a big role in the building of the reliefs of the Opet Festival, which was seen on the walls of the hall in the Temple of Amun at Luxor. For someone of such a young age you can see that he did still accomplish many things during his reign.
The restoration role was also an important role played by Tutankhamun. During previous years before his reign, many building's such as temples and shrine were damaged or destroyed. Part of Tutankhaumns role that he put on himself was the restoring of many of these famous monuments. Many of these were the rebuilding of buildings that had been destroyed in previous years.One of the temples that he rebuilt during his restoration was the temple of Amun at Karnak. He also rebuilt temples and shrines around Nubia.
